John Chow is Popular How?

I was viewing Sir Chow's blog which I don't do that often due to my loyalty and interest in many other blogs. As many of you know by now, John Chow has a blog entitled "I make money online telling others how much money I make online" As clever as that is, I wonder how much of it is self proclaimed and hype and how much of it is actual.
I'm sure he's made money especially with the plaster of ads he has on his site, but how much of that is due to him? He seems to have a following of wannabe millionaires who think they will make it out there if they only follow what he says. But what's he really saying? I came across one of his latest posts, and the comment from the Ohio Realtor is gripping. *Insert smile here*

His slogan's catchy. And he was there when adsense was in its heyday.
He has one interesting post a month. The rest is fodder for fanboys.
There are a lot more informative sites out there that cover the same subjects.
I will confess to finding some of his brashness interesting in the same way I enjoy reading about Paris Hilton or Brittany Spears.
Hardy har, Rob.
Do you like sushi?
It's amazing how many articles are popping up about John Chow's hype. His followers are slowly becoming desensitized by the fluff he now posts. His earnings are motivating, but when you do not outline the details behind your success, or try and help others emulate your success, you see your hey day fall by the wayside.
A much better, meatier blog is Dosh Dosh, but hype can get a long way.

@stephan I've been to Dosh Dosh a few times. Thank you for the reminder.
it's luck to be 'popular', and mouth spreading of his name, like what you're doing now making him popular. :)
Interesting. Our job (as human beings) is to question authority-well, everything!
But while you do that, you also help him with his page rank :)
Anyway, you have a broken link (missing ":" on http) where it says "latest post" to John Chow's page.
@ gary That last part gave me a chuckle, thank you.
@cece Yes, I like it.. But obviously not as much as John Chow. Heh.
@blogginpreneur Maybe if he changed the title of his webpage to "I Make Money Online by Telling People How Much Sushi I Eat", we wouldn't all feel somewhat deceived.
Seriously though, I, myself, find comfort in telling people how I feel or what I like to do. I think we all do to some point. So, I guess we shouldn't be so hard on the guy. I just want to know how he does it!
@spendmoneyonline I suppose luck might be part of the equation, but I'm sure he put a lot of hard work into it as well.
@curlybrace I don't mind helping a fellow blogger out. Besides if I didn't link to him, he wouldn't have came and read the story 5 minutes later after I posted it. Hah.
Thank you very much for pointing out the broken link! It's very much appreciated.
All you need to know about making money online is all on his blog.
Just that you need to know he was already quite heavily making money with his tech site before starting a blog that suddenly became as famous as sushi...
DoshDosh is much more on topic :-)
Hey, he got big and now he already has his loyal followers... I'm not one of them, but there are a bunch of haters and lovers...
I have been to his blog about 4 times total, not that impressed.

sure but only part of his income is from that blog. He makes money speaking (sometimes) and also from TTZ media, his company with the copycat Chitika widget and price comparison stuff...
Ever since Chow got rocked by google he has been going nowhere. I remember watching or reading something he said he didnt need google anyway....now he buys advertisements in Adwords...In my opinion he is a hypocrite.
I only visit his site once a month ..
just passing by...
Ever heard of Not John Chow, or Jon Cow? Both of these guys are much better in my opinion than John Chow himslef, but of course they got started from him too.
